Which Wolf Are You Feeding? N.O.V.A. Graduation Ceremony

Submitted by joann.kirk on

All the 6th graders participated in Nova.  N.O.V.A stands for Nurturing, Opportunities, Values and Accountability.  Officer Bill Wright taught the students many valuable lessons.  They learned about how to have a successful life through making right choices with their education, with their associations with others, and with staying healthy.  Everyone's favorite lesson was about the boiled frog.  Little changes in temperature are not noticed; pretty soon the frog is at the boiling point, and then it's too late.  Choices are like that.  Little changes in attitude and habits are not noticed, but pretty soon you are at the boiling point.

Each student was asked to write a constitution.  This Constitution is a document that is meant to guide and direct their lives in good, positive, and productive ways.  In essence, it’s their, “Road map to the path of Excellence”.

Graduation was held on February 11, 2015! Two people from each class got to read their constitution:  From Mrs. Hardy’s class Anna Reed and Bailey Smith. From Mr. Wright’s class, Violet Van Komen and Wayde Fratto.  Aubrey Wengert and Wylie Wilson. from Mrs. Van Nosdol’s class shared their thoughts.

Next the N.O.V.A. Pack awards were given. These students chose not to watch TV or play video games for one week:  Tyler Page, Rebecca Lake, Jacob Sorenson, Adda Rigby, Sarah Baker, Rebekah Story, McKatie Eden, Garett Williams, Alyssa Gowans, Haile Bulkley, Kaylee Oryall, Kimberly Brandley, Wayde Fratto, Kimball Wilde, Kieser Frost, Issi Yama, Brad Wharton, Sydney Hill, Taylor Brothersen, Kamry Flippen, Jennica Davis, Rylee Openshaw, Harley Walker and Katelynn Cunningham.   There was even a Canine Demonstration.

Hallie Buckley said the thing that most influenced her was when they talked about doing drugs. Garett Williams said Officer Wright was the person that helped him the most. Wylie Wilson said he learned differently. It was like learning but at the same time it wasn’t.

Special thanks goes to our 6th grade teachers, Mr. Wright, Ms. VanNosdal, Mrs. Hardy, Lt. Wright, Mayor Moore and the City Council, Chief Engler, Taco Time, Payson Market, Wal-Mart and Nebo School District.

Congratulations graduates!  Continue to feed the wolf that will guide you to excellence.
