On November 11, 2014, Park View Elementary held a Veteran’s Day Assembly to honor the people who have served our country. To start our program Kamyren Meek, Mckenzie Chappel, and Leah Wengert sang “I Hear America Singing”.   What a heart warming song to start the program. Then the Kindergarten children sang “I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag.  Next, the first grade sang “The Flag is a Symbol of our Country". The song told us why our flag colors are red, white, and blue. The song said, Red is for Courage, Blue is for Loyalty, and White is for Purity.  Then Mrs. Paice, one of our school teachers, introduced us to a few of the veterans. George Paice, her husband, told us what it was like to fight in the war. He fought in the Vietnam War.  He had to train to get physically strong to face his enemies, King Cobra’s, tigers, rice paddies, and jungles as well as enemy soldiers. “I had to get use to the word kill. Since it’s not in my nature”, he said.  After he spoke, the second grade sang You’re a Grand Old Flag”. Then the fifth grade sang “I'm Proud to be an American". This song told us to be proud of being an American.  Next, Mike Paice, Mrs. Paice’s son, told us about serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  He showed us a slide show of what he saw there. They would give soccer balls, and fruit to the children there.  After that the fourth grade sang “Freedom Isn’t Free”.  It reminded us that people gave up their lives so we could be free. Then the third grade sang ”This Land is Your Land”. Next the sixth grade sang “God Bless The USA.  Our very own Mr. Wright, a sixth grade teacher, is also a veteran. He told us he served in the National Guard for twenty years. We give thanks to all the people who have served our country.
