Dr. Seuss Celebrated at Park View

Submitted by joann.kirk on

All became "Seussical" at Park View during the week of March 2nd - March 6th.  We celebrated Dr. Seuss's Birthday by reading his books, dressing up as his characters, and doing activities to celebrate his genius.

Students were given "Oh the Places You'll Go Passports" to visit many classrooms where teachers shared their favorite Dr. Seuss stories.  Mrs. Kirk read the 500 Hats of Barthalamu Cubbins. Then we made hats using newspaper, and feathers. Mrs. Mellen read the Dr. Seuss Quizz Book. Mrs. Kobber read Do You Know How Lucky You Are? Mrs Gull read If I Ran a Zoo. Mrs Lundell read Green Eggs and Ham, and had the students play pin the egg on the ham. She also had her class name parts of The Cat in the hat. Mrs. Prina read Daisy Head Masiy. Yurttle the turtle is out there. Mrs. Adams read Migal Gets a Pool and compares real fish with Dr. Seuss's made up fish.

On Wednesday, students dressed up.  An assembly, hosted by The Cat in the Hat (Mrs. Stirland) and Thing One and Thing Two (Mrs. Makin and Mrs. Kent) joined in the celebration with all the trouble they can cause.  A competition between the teachers and the students was held.  Challenging Challenges or Quizzical Questions were chosen to earn points.  Ms. Allred said the alphabet backwards, Mrs. Barney balanced 10 hats on their head, Mrs. Anderson carried green eggs across the stage on forks, Mrs. Ore had to balance fish on her nose while eating a pile of fish, Mrs. Rife had to lick cool whip from a flat plate, and Mr. Broadbent balanced a ruler on his nose with cotton balls on each end.  Garett sang the Grinch song.  Rebekah blew up a balloon and hopped on it to  pop it in 30 seconds.  Kiri made the winning point for the students by naming the town that Grinch robbed on Christmas Eve.
