Little Mermaid Auditions after school

We are so excited to announce that this year our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students have an opportunity to be a part of the production “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.” – Directed by Mrs. Hancock.

Auditions will be held September 17th and 18th with callbacks being on September 20th. On September 17th, we ask all who would like to audition to come prepared to sing a 30 - 60 second section from either a Broadway musical or a Disney song. Below is a link to sign up for the singing part of auditions. Auditions start at 3:15 pm and go until 6:00 pm. Your child will only need to come for the time they signed up for. If those times do not work, please reply and we will try to accommodate those who cannot make it. Also, we ask, if at all possible, to provide a karaoke version of the song your child has chosen to sing. You can leave a link in the audition sign-ups or send your child with the link.

Everyone will then be asked to stay after school on September 18th to learn a small dance to one of the songs from the show. We will then break everyone into smaller groups to perform for the directors. We anticipate that this part of the audition will be done at 4:30 pm.

We will then ask some students to come back for callbacks to read for certain characters on September 20th. We may also ask to come to callbacks to sing a part of a song from the show. There are plenty of roles for all students. Everyone who auditions will get a part in the show, even if they are not part of the call backs.

Rehearsals will begin on September 25th and 26th and will continue every Wednesday and Thursday after school until 4:30. Starting January 8th, rehearsals will go until 5:00.

While we hope that everyone will be able to be at every rehearsal, we understand that there are conflicts. However, we expect everyone to be at all rehearsals that they are scheduled for on the calendar. We will send out a calendar every month that will let you know when your child needs to be at rehearsal. If something unexpected comes up, such as an illness, we ask that you text or email to let us know. We will not tolerate anyone missing rehearsal because they just didn't feel like being there that day. Being in a play is a big responsibility and in order for the play to come together we need everyone to be there when they say they will be.

There are a few dates that are mandatory. These dates cannot be missed unless your child is extremely ill. Please check your calendars to see if there will be any conflicts. The following are the mandatory rehearsals:

Every rehearsal starting in February until the performances

Saturday, March 1st from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm (This is our tech rehearsal)

March 3rd, 4th, and 5th from after school until 5:00

Our performance dates will be March 6th during school hours for the school, March 7th at 6:30 pm (call time will be 5:00 pm), and March 8th at 2:00 pm (call time will be 12:30 pm).

There will be a parent meeting after the first rehearsal, September 25th, at 4:30 pm. At this time, we will be going over schedules and expectations. Our plan is to be done by 5:00 pm.

There will be a fee of $50 for each student who is participating. This will be used to help cover costs of costumes, set pieces, and the licensing for the show. There will be a discount for those with multiple students in the show. If your student would like to participate, but cannot afford the fee, please talk to Mrs. Walker to discuss other available options. We want all students that are eager to participate in the play to be able to have the opportunity.

Here is a list of Characters in order for students to get an idea of who they may want to audition for. Here is an Audition Consent Form for parents and students to fill out together. There will also be copies for students to pick up in the drama room and in the office.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Hancock at julie.hancock [at] nebo.edu (julie[dot]hancock[at]nebo[dot]edu).
