The Veggie Project - Making Healthy Choices at Park View

Submitted by joann.kirk on

Before Monday, February 4th, students at Park View weren’t eating enough fruits or veggies.  Now they are eating a lot of fruits and veggies.  What happened?

A BYU research team came and observed if the Park View students were eating their vegetables.  They found many students throwing away carrots, peas and salad.  They wondered how they could motivate students to start eating their veggies.  They started The Veggie Project.

If a student eats all their fruits or veggies, they will get a token.  They are worth 25 cents to be spent at the book fair which will be held the first week of March.  If students bring home lunch they will get a ticket that is also worth 25 cents toward a book.  Thanks to the PTA and Mrs. Reynolds for making this possible.

What do the people at Park View think of this project?  “It’s great.  It is a great way to eat healthy”, exclaimed Ms. Van Nosdol.  “I love the fruits and I like the salads” added Wendy Camba.

There has been a wonderful change of heart at our school because of the Veggie Project.  There are more healthy students walking down the halls at Park View.  Keep up the healthy eating!
