Students in second grade celebrated the 102nd Day of school today. Celebrating the 100th day is important because place value is  a fundamental math concept in 1st and 2nd grades. Since students are in the second grade, they celebrated the 102nd day. Students dressed up like they were 102 years-old, wrote about what they might be like when they are 102 years old, wrote equations that equaled 102, thought of words that described 102 (old, elderly, cane, etc), and gave numerical values to letters and added up how much these words would equal 102. Students also did a variety of activities (hopping, saying the alphabet, counting to 10, etc) in 102 seconds. It was a grand day!
