N.O.V.A. Graduation Ceremony Announced

Submitted by joann.kirk on

During the last few months, the sixth graders participated in the N.O.V.A Program.   N.O.V.A.'s mission is to Nurture youth to seek out positive Opportunities, internalize good Values, and to accept Accountability for their choices in life.  N.O.V.A. assists parents, families, and communities in protecting youth from the potentially devastating effects of illegal drugs, violence, and negative media exposure.  The instructor was Lieutenant Bill Wright.  He came to the sixth grade classrooms every Wednesday to teach.  In every lesson, students learned something different.  Lt. Wright taught life skills, told true stories about bad choices people have made, and why we should make good decisions, like not to do drugs.  He gave each class a stuffed wolf named Polaris, named after the North Star, who we can always count on.  With every lesson there was a fun activity to help them understand what will happen when they make a choice, good or bad.  At the end of instruction, each student was asked to write a constitution saying what they learned during the year.  They also were asked to do three acts of service within three days.  If they qualified for graduation, they earned a N.O.V.A t-shirt that will remind them to always make good decisions.  Good job sixth graders for graduating N.O.V.A!  Thank you, Lt. Wright for teaching us!

N.O.V.A. graduation will be held February 26 at 6:00.  Parents are invited to attend this great event to celebrate their child's N.O.V.A. Graduation.
