On Thursday, May 22, 2nd grade went to the Payson Library where we learned about this summer's reading program: Fizz, Boom, Read. It is a science theme and the library has turned into a libratory. We got a tour of the library, saw a science experiment where bubbles were made with soap & dry ice & we acted out the story of The 3 Little Pigs. Sign up for the summer reading program starting June 3.

Buddy Class

Submitted by carrie.vannosdol on

Miss Allred’s fifth grade class and Ms. Toutai’s first grade class became buddies at the beginning of the year. They started by reading together, then later  for Halloween they made noodle skeletons. For Thanksgiving they made paper turkeys, and for Christmas they made ornaments.  For the last activity of the year, they did an obstacle course. Some of the events were a balance beam, stepping stones, frisbee toss, and a zig-zag slalom. The fifth graders all made new friends and the first graders loved seeing their buddies in the hall throughout the year.

Sixth graders launched into space at the Discover Space Center on Friday, May 2. The field trip experience was divided into two parts: space simulators and science classes. The class portion focused on light, sound, and astronomy. In the simulator, students worked together to complete a successful mission. Students were required to use what they learned under stressful situations. They had to listen to each other and work together as a team in order to accomplish their mission goals.

Bean Musuem Visits First Grade

Submitted by carrie.vannosdol on

On Friday, May 16, first graders had a visit from The Bean Museum to learn about classifying animals. They learned to classify them by vertebrates and invertebrates and then classified the vertebrates into mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, and reptiles. The museum brought some live animals - a tarantula, a PacMan frog and a Red Tegu lizard. When asked what their favorite part was, students all said the animals - especially the lizard!
